Newbie question for backing up a DVD-9.
Using DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta, I am authoring only the main movie, the subtitles, Dolby Audio, and DTS Audio.
My question is now I do not have the main menu, how do I select the different audio tracks and turn subtitles on and off?
    Thanks in advance.

If you can't do it with your DVD player menu then you won't be able to.

You might try using Shrink without re-authoring if your DVD-9 is not to huge.

Get your movie into Shrink> click on the menu to select it> click on "ratio"> use the ratio slider to increase the compression as much as possible> click on the extras> do the same thing you did with the menu> Edit your sub-pictures and audio tracks> backup!
Try and keep you compression above 60% and use the deep analysis feature.
Nero Recode 2 will let you keep the menu but it's a bit more involved.

    Good luck,
    Frank

Hi Pesto67, Anytime you use the re-author feature in DVDShrink, you loose the menu operation. Its nothing you did wrong, just the way Shrink works. When I want to re-author a movie and keep menus working, I use Clonedvd and Anydvd together which works very well. You can download the trial versions of both for a month I think.
Cost about $40. each but worth it in my opinion.

    Thanks for the replies.
So without the menu there is no way to access the alternate audio tracks or turn subtitles off/on? (Even though they are on the dvd)

Yes, you are correct. Once you re-author, the menu becomes a usless video clip that just plays.

    Audio tracks and captioning work!!
    Thought I would try something out. I used dvdshrink to author a dvd with the following;
    -main movie
    -captioning
    -dolby digital audio
    -dts audio

It was quite large originally but did not have to compress at all with just these options. 100%
Using my dvd remote I was able to change the audio input and turn subtitles on and off even thought movie had no menu.
Final result a complete movie where I can access captioning, both audio tracks, and I find menu not really needed as you can just use your chapter button on dvd remote. If you want extras just burn on seperate cd if that important IMHO.
Now one day when I buy my DTS receiver I'll have that audio track!
Hope someone find this info helpful.
    :)
