I have a bunch of 300-400MB avi files, they worked fine the last time I played them, now they wont. I used different computers (Win 7) and different players as below: MPC HC 1.6.1.4235 - video starts without problems but then shortly thereafter, the video freezes but the time is still running and the slider still moving. None of the buttons work. Or it pauses itself, click play and it starts from the beginning again. VLC 2.0.1 - says the avi file is broken. Builing an index in memory crashed VLC or some do same as MPC. WMP 12.latest - WMP has a encountered a problem playing the file or video starts, plays for 30 seconds, freezes and pixelates while time runs and audio jumps to another point in the video. Are these files toast? If so, I wonder what happened to them.
Try DivFix or if you can load one in VirtualDub, click 'Video' > 'Scan video screen for errors'. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DivFix
