will changing a avi to svcd make the quality better
It really depends on what type of encoding you want to do (quality). Why SVCD?
what do u mean encoding?
Encoding is just another name for converting an AVI file to anything like an MPEG etc. Anytime you change the format you will lose some quality. To keep this minimal you would want to use a program like TEMPGenc for the best quality conversion. It'll do a great job for your SVCD as well as any other type of DVDr recording.
