bad dvd burns

    ive used nero tmegen and others only to have a disc not play in my dvd home player is it me or is it my hp dvd r+ discs in mirc ive heard of others having a prob with hp discs

    It depends on which manufacturer made those hp discs. Download this free version of dvdinfopro: http://dvdinfopro.com

    It also has a scan test to find any errors on those backups. A very handy program.

    It will tell you who made those discs.

    How do those backups look on your pc,using the drive that played it?

    check the manufactors website that made your burner go whith the brands they recommend for your drive. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with verbatum or Tiyo Yuden, You may have to experiment with +R or -R to see which one plays on your set top player the best.
    All you need is dvd decrypter and dvd shrink to get the job done.
