The asus is the fatsest ripper but not the best at reading damaged discs. i have found that ny lg and pioneer dvd burners have been best at reading damaged discs

Go with a LiteON would be my reccomendation they are fast at ripping and they read anything I throw at them.

I have had just about every brand and I can honestly say LiteOn's have always out performed even the more expensive drives.

ASUS - Not good at reading dirty or scratched disks
Pionner - Descent enough will get the job done (locked in at certain speed for ripping)
LG - Pretty much the same as LiteOn's
Plextor - For the money they should read anything (they dont)
NEC - Good dependable drive just not that good at ripping
Sony - Don't waste your money
HP - Actually pretty descent drive
Toshiba - Reads pretty good just not as fast as a SATA LiteOn
Teac - Was good drive but been a while since I had this
LaCie - Fast, but not capable of reading everything

That was the ones I could remember, but I have had a lot my most recent was an ASUS drive which I figured I would try because the price was right, and don't get me wrong it works as it was designed to, but when it comes to ripping a DVD movie it just can't compare to my Litey :)
