If your giong to buy a new writer you may as well purchase a duel layer has there is very little in cost difference. Some games on ps2 are now using duel layer disc. Also you will be aware that you can watch your dvd films on ps2.A good percentage of these films are on dual layer discs. If i was in the market for another duel layer writer i would probably go for one of the following.

    Pioneer dvr-108 Approx price £59:00
    NEC 3500 Approx price £58:00
    Sony DRU-700A Approx price £58:00
    Lite-on SOHW-832S Approx price £50:00

All these prices have been taken from the following web site

Ps sorry i forgot to read your link.If it is a external drive you are going for i would go for one of the makers i have mentioned as they all have proven track records.Plus there is also plextor to add to the list which i forgot to mention.

    Hope this helps
    Thanks
