    Hey all,
I'm not a newbie but I've found out that not all DVD players are alike (yeah I know, genious). Anyway, I've noticed the combo DVD/VCR really don't work good with my Taiyo's (stopping, glitches, etc) as compared to the stand alone dvd player. What am I missing in regards to shopping for a good dvd player? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Same way with burners. Your player may play the dash from 1 burner, but not the dash from another burner-even using the same media.

Those el cheapo magnavox's at Walmart will play just about everything.

The best thing to do is find a new player locally, and test all your backups in it-from different formats and brands of media. Make sure it'll handle them. If it don't play them right, then take it back.

Lots of things can give stand alone players issues.
    Burn speed
Media quality- There's fake tys out there.
    Burn engine
Burner quality-up to date firmware. There's some crap drives out there.
    Multi-tasking
    Fragmented HD
    Paper/sticker labels
dirty laser lens-lens cleaning disc is a last resort.
    Ripping/compressing/encoding programs
    Compression
Too large of backup target-Burning the outer edge of disc.

Take note of where those issues occur.Make sure your pc plays it ok,using the same dvd-rw drive that burned it.

bradyboy: Look at the bottom-dye side- of those tys and look for the batch #. It'll look like GH000078 or similar. Starts with 2 uppercase letters, followed by 6 numbers.

The Ty MID code can be faked, but not the batch number. Faked tys can cause a lot of playback issues.

    That's some quality stuff.
