    I know that somewhere there is a thread about the best writing media for ps2 DVD backups...but I can find it...

    I'm using maxell dvd-r and some games have worked fine at the beginning but after some time they start to freeze and have long loading periods....Some others just have these problems always....
    Is this because of the media? Do they wear down in time? Which media is the best for ps2 dvd backups?

    thanks

    There's a list on here somewhere of the best types of media. It makes a HUGE difference. Maxell is not one of the better types, if I recall. Try Verbatim maybe.

    The other very important factor is burn speed. Burn slow (1x or 2x) for better results. Some faster blank dvd's and dvd burners may not even support such slow speeds, though. Even if you can select "1x" it may burn at 4x or whatever.

    I just got a flip top today, and I made some backups with Verbatim DVD-Rs. They are labeled "1x-4x" but the slowest I can burn is 4x. So far, my games seem to work fine. The cutscenes in FFX-2 skip a little, but I don't give a crap about that game anyway.

    Here's that list. Maxell IS good apparently, so maybe it's your burn speed.
    ------------------------------

    The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
    the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.

    Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
    PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
    MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
    MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
    TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
    TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

    Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
    success rate:

    RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
    SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
    PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
    INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
    RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)

    ver 1-4 ps2 get -r
    ver 5 and up can use +r

    It is strange that my maxell burnt games have problems...I use cd labels on the dvds and a friend told me that the label adds weight to the dvdr and forces the lens. Is that true? Maybe that happends to you tonyc24? Also my maxell's dvdr manufacturer is TYG01...so are these the good one? How can tell the diference when I buy them?

    Another thing what difference does it makes that the dvdr is 4x or 8x....does that affect to?

    Thanks for the time

    tony: use hdloader.. then u'll hardly use ur lense...

    alemonty: i use ridata for all my ps2 games.. so far i dun have ANY coaster!! that holds true for my friends as well.. even tho it's not a big brand.. but it got the QUALITY!! and it's relatively cheap too... it supports 8x... but we only burn it @ 4x for the optimal loading time
