What is the best place to order a DMS4 chip? I tried ordering HDAdvance from 2 different places, but they never delivered or even had the courtesy to reply to my email and phone calls. So I'm going to skip that and just go with a DMS4 Pro and ToxicOS. Has anyone bought a DMS chip recently from a reliable seller?

they sell the chips, they do installs, they sell premodded systems and soon will have a full gaming store when it is done a most likely next month.

These are just my thoughts, take them as you will....

The DMS4 is known to be just about the most buggy chip on the market and the team appears to have disappeared. There forums are taken over buy porn spam and cell phone spammers as well as virus spreaders.

The Crystal Chip 2.0 however is a rock solid chip with a great support team and forum.

You can find good deals here http://www.foundmy.com and here http://www.norcalmods.com

I hadn't heard about the problems with DMS4 chips. I have tried to order one through teammodders.com, but haven't gotten any response yet. All I want is to be able to boot from any media and to be able to play games from the hard drive. I'll go have a look at the Crystal Chip info and see if it's the one for me. Thanks for the pointers.

either would be a fine choice. The DMS4 chips there will not be any firmware upgrades to as far as i know. But it will still do pretty much anything you want except for auto patching games for online play.
As far as them being "buggy" that is just not true at all.
I own 2 PS2's both with DMS4 Pro chips in them. One i gave to a friend (V5/6) and the other is for me (V12) and neither one has had any problems at all in over a year. I also know several other people with these chips who also have no problems. Most problem come because people do not have them professionally installed.

That is good to hear. Unfortunately, I do not seem to be able to find a vendor who will actually sell me a DMS4. I have placed my order for HDAdvance which is probably all I need since I will have all the games I care to play on the hard disk and I can put them on the HD using my PC. This is my 3rd attempt to buy HDAdvance. My credit card has been charged so hopefully they will actually deliver, unlike the other 2 places I tried.

No my friend you are very incorrect in this statement. Even a pro cant get around the known and documented hardware issues with the DMS4. 2 out of 2 is far from a far quality assurance. I have seen more bad DMS4's then you could imaging. I have even seen them work fine for a year or so and then when the end user goes to upgrade the chip the flash fails and the chip is no good after this, not even in recovery!

The DMS4 is hands down the most poorly designed chip on the market and the DMS team in my eyes analogizes this with no support or updates in over a year and letting their so called "support" forum go to crap which massive amounts of porn and virus spam and cell phone scams.

The best chip on the market right now is the CC2.0 and above this the CC team is still active in the scene which in of its self speaks volumes over DMS.

I would have to agree that buying HDA is not a bad choice really. I would consider that over a DMS chip any day. But the combination of a mochip (like the CC2.0) and the current patched HDL is one of the better setups.

Once again svlasers good luck in what ever you chose. At least you now have heard of good options from a few different sources and maybe can make your own decision which it appears you already have.

    Have fun!

People can say whatever they like about DMS chips, but i know several installers who have been installing them for years now without problems. And more than enough satisfied customers who own them.

And EVERY chip has a dud now and then, i know several installers who have gotten a dead Crystal Chip and have had to get it replaced.

No they do not have much support or firmware upgrades these day, that much is true. But you can find plenty of owners on forums to answer your questions. And the chip will already do everything that most average users need, and with the PS2 soon to be on the back burner for game makers there are not too many more features that you could possibly need.

Did you actually get the chip? The few vendors I've been able to talk to say that they are out of stock...

Unfortunately the DMS4 has more then "a dud now and then". I have been in the scene long enough to back this statement. In fact I just installed a DMS4 Lite SE with a bad BSOD issue just last night. Go and ask the head modder from your home forum and he will agree with this statement.

I have installed more CC's then you could imagine and never have I once seen a bad chip from them.

Sure the PS2 is on its way out, but to justify the poor support from the DMS chips as well as there team does not make up for a damn thing. Also there are millions of people that will still like to see the PS2 mod as well as homebrew continue in development years after the PS2 reaches its end, just as the PS1 did. Just because new games may not be being released for the PS2 means absolutely nothing to the development of homebrew and modchip features, and is a reach to down play this at best. So a team like Crystal Chip fits this bill and is the dominate chip and team currently in the scene because of it. New features are sure to come and already have.

Long live the PS2 and the Crystal Chip Team!!!!

Another vote for DMS4 chips being buggy. I had a run of 5/7 chips not work for me. Luckily I ordered from www.mod-chip.com and Ostermann was happy to exchange the faulty chips for me.

I know it was the chips and not my installs because I'd unsolder one chip, put in another chip, and the install would work.

I've since had all my replacements work, I think it was just the crystals having gone bad? In my mind, the ONLY thing keeping demand for DMS chips is Toxic OS.

I've never had a Matrix Infinity chip go bad. No experience with the Crystal Chips - but I'm going to look at them for my next mod.

I have only had one Mi go bad out of hundreds installed. Never have a seen a bad CC. raiderj I hope you enjoy the CC whenever you get around to evaluating them. Its quit a different kind of chip, but an enjoyable one once you understand its many differences.

    ps2modgod,
Completely your opinion which you are entitled to. You are a "crystal chip or no chip" type. It is the only chip that you think anyone should buy. Unlike myself, who always suggests the top 3 chips, then provides some features and facts so that people can make an informed decision. The installer i spoke of installed at the DMS Forums along with other forums so i am sure he has installed more then he cares to count with great success, and continues to do so. I will freely tell people that DMS4 chips are not likely to have any features added. Or that the Crystal Chip is the only chip with auto patching and IGR. But i refuse to tell people it is a bad chip when i have owned 2 myself without problem and refered many more people who have also had them installed and loved them. I have been around forums like this for many years now and DMS chips are not one that you see many complains on. And most that you do hear are due to user error of faulty installs.

I am not going to continue to have the Crystal Chip VS DMS chip debate. It is not worth it. I will just continue to provide information on ALL the top chips and let the person make their own choices.

Once again my friend you are incorrect. I not only recommend the CC but the MI and Duo chips, I'm even starting to realize that the Xeno PS is a quality MI clone. So have a look at a few more of my posts before you jump to conclusions like this again.

Once again this justify nothing. Sure installers that stock lots of DMS4's can keep swapping out those bad DMS's until they drop one in that doesnt have issues, then if they are lucky their supplier (divineo/supremefactory) which knowns the DMS4's are very buggy (since they are also the manufacture) will gladly take them back for exchange. This same person is also a regular at the DMS forum and has confirmed this.

This is great! I can respect your feelings towards the DMS chips and I don't expect you to refuse a thing. These are your opinions and I have expressed mine. As long as we can keep the debate on a level ground with out flame I see no reason why both of us cant express these opinions openly.

Not trying to beat a dead horse here but DMS has had a history of buggy chips all the way back to the DMS3 days and the DMS4 is the most buggy chip to date. I have contacts with many pro installers that are independent of the DMS forum and they will all agree with this. Not even a pro can get around the known and documented issues with the DMS4's.

Good, and I don not plan to stop commenting on the performance of chips other then DMS. Dont get me wrong I have owned DMS chips and used them but with the poor success rates of the DMS4's and the absence of support and updates from DMS I have to look else where for the quality and service I like to see in a modchip since I do not find it in the DMS team any longer.

    Have fun!

ps2modgod, agree 100%, maybe i just get a little defensive with all the DMS4 bashing when i have personally never had a bad experience or have heard one from anyone i recommended buy one.

The lack of support is a little disappointing for sure. I actually was going to get a Crystal Chip V1.1 (for my old V7)from a friend for free but bought a premodded Xbox instead.

So with that being said i will publicly apologize for being so defensive about the issue and move on.
