We have just brought a new system with sony dvd burner DVD RW DW-U18A. We are having heaps of trouble burning dvds. They will burn all right until the last 30 mins or so. We have tried nero, clone dvd and dvd shrink, all with the same problem. Could it be the actual discs that we are using or the fact that our burner is a single layer? Yet we can burn music cds alright and have had friends try and help us but nothing that we have tried has work. Any suggestion as to why it wont work or what program we could try?
I would try a different media before you change anything.If you can burn cd's ok this sort of indicates it will probably be the media. John179
John's right, it's probably your media. Single layer has nothing to do with it unless you are trying to burn files too large for your disc. What media are you using and what size? Are you compressing with your software before burning? Bad media is a huge factor in dvd burning, much more than people realize.
the media that we r using is gotech computer ware 4.7gb 120min for general use dvd that we have had burnt of other people have worked fine, they use princo discs, should we try that. thanx
make sure you dont have incd installed on your machine , this software is known for causing burning problems , also you could try different media as suggested , and to cut down on the coasters you could use rw media until you have your problem solved .

We went and got a dvd rw tried it and it has worked properly. The whole movie is there. It was the dvd disc that we were using. Thank you for all of your help.
shannon47, So sorry to dis your friends but Princo and your unknown (gotech computer ware) media are at the bottom of the barrel as far as quality is concerned. Here's what we recommend - RiData, Ritek G04's, Sony, Verbatim DataLife Plus and Verbatim DataLife. It's not only a matter of burning as media like "orange Pack" OR "Princo" will only give you around a 10% failure rate (failure to write too, Burn too Or play). It has a pretty short memory. Your cheapo media has a tendency to bleed information over a 1 to 2 year period. That means all your treasures may well not be there in a few short years. The nonsense about being good for 100 years just isn't true. Look what's happing to CD's.
