BitTorrent problems

    I'd be very grateful for any advice please.
    When I'm downloading using Bit Torrent or Bit Tornado, even though there's a good download speed it isn't registering properly as being downloaded. If I shutdown the program and restart it, it will download a bit of it, maybe 5Mb, then stop registering, even though it is actually still downloading.
    I have ports open on my Netgear DG834 wired router (to one PC) and I'm using XP Pro SP2.
    Also, of possible relevance: I occasionally have problems resolving to certain web pages and large update downloads. I've tried clearing the router DNS cache and changing the DNS servers without success. My MTU settings are 1500/1460, router/PC.
