I am trying to back-up onto a DVD-R and am a novice at this. I have a HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N 1.19 and for some reason the Imation DVD-R is not being recognized when I go to burn it. I've tried a few blank ones in the pack, but now not sure if its a firmware issue or bad media or what? The computer is farily new and have been able to play CD's, burn onto a CD, and play DVD's .. just perplexed with this latest issue. Any suggestions?

Most likely the problem is that your burner is not compatible with -R media. Try +R and see if you still have the same problem.

As btitus said it might be the media, the burner might not be compatible with it, try +R or +RW
