i had the exact same problem since i got the bloodhound.packed.10 alert. somehow i figured out a way to get around it. after i logged in in safe mode, a window popped up and asked if i really wanted to stay in safe mode and keep system restore disabled. it took me several tries, but apparently if i clicked no (to reenable system restore) i was able to boot in safe mode. i dont know if that was just my little bug, or if thats part of the virus, but thats how i got around it, so good luck.

sorry, but none of this seems to be helping . . . even the system restores won't work.

I think the problem is because the infected file is part of the boot process, and it won't clean it because it's essential to the operating system . . .

I'm just so out to left field on this . . . i don't have any idea what to do anymore.

I don't know about all of you guys but Norton detected Bloodhound, and quarantined it. I didn't do any special scan, or boot into Safe mode. But is there any chance that Bloodhound will leave a trace or like another virus?

    Hi Guys,

Tried just about every possibility through Nortons and virus file just won't quarantine or delete!!!!

Also tried safe mode and system restore, etc - still no joy!

Any other ideas or am I going down a rebuild route?

    Thanks,

Can anyone suggest anything else? I've got this same virus on my PC. Norton pops up a Virus Alert at High Risk, and says: Object Name C:\Windows\system32\ssqrr.dll, Virus Name Bloodhound.Packed.10, and Action Taken Unable to repair this file. When I click OK, the Action Taken changes to: Access to the file was denied. I click OK again, the Virus Alert boxes just keep popping up over and over. I've tried the steps here: http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/bloodhound.packed.html as Waymon3X6 suggested, turned off System Restore, started in Safe Mode, ran a full system scan in Safe Mode and Norton is still unable to fix the issue. My CPU usage is all over the place because of this and the PC is very slow to respond. I also tried System Restore and it keeps telling me that it's unable to restore. I can download and run Hijack This if someone can read it and tell me what to do with it. I'm not the most tech savvy and could really use some help. Thanks.

    Hi Guys,

I am literally the same as my colleague here. Anyone with any further guidance will be of great help. I have also tried AVG, Spybot and windows malicious software removal tool to no avail.

WTF, Norton's warning change into "Trojan.Vundo".

I got rid of the bloodhound.packed.10 and the Vundo.Trojan, finally. I used spybot first in safe mode, and then I found another forum with the same problem here: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=11232 (the link to the Vundofix.exe is on that site) and it posted the info below. The VundoFix.exe finally did the trick. Norton stopped finding the bloodhound and my PC is fine. Everything below is from the spybot page that I found, so you don't need to post the logs here that it asks for. Again, I'm a novice but this finally worked. Been dealing with this for almost two weeks now and this did the trick.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

To boot into safe mode manually, start your computer the regular way. When everything boots up, and you are logged in, go to start and then "run". Type "msconfig" (with out the quotes) and a box should appear. Go to the "boot.ini" tab and under boot options check "safe boot".

The hit apply and close the application. You will then be asked to restart your computer, click ok to restart now. When you restart, you will be in safe mode. To get out of safe mode, while you are in the system configuration utility again, go to boot.ini and uncheck safe boot. Then go to general and make sure you have normal setup checked. Hope this helps!

    Hi Guys,

I just want to say I used VundoFix and it removed the .dll files which were causing me many problems like some of you people above.

Thanksyou to everyone for the advise and guidance - as I am now back to normal...at least I think I am for the time being :)

What a great site this is with a depth of infinite knowledge.

Well done and thankyou all one again.

.....a few sheckles being donated to Vundo's paypal account me thinks!!!
