After burning a 700mb .avi file to DVD using a External USB Lite-On DVDRW SHM 165P6S and Nero burning ROM 6.6.0.19, i play the DVD back and at the bottom of the Picture is a blurry line of about 1/2cm high. it is annoying as the rest of the picture quality is fine.

Any suggestions as to why this is or how to stop it???

    Thank you

What was the source of the AVI file?

    PAL video ?

Could what you are seeing just be the normal horizontal overscan lines?

    see:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan_amounts

    for what I'm on about.

If you play the resulting DVD on your TV do the blurry lines show at the bottom on the TV screen or not?

Playing the DVD on your computer using Nero ShowTime (for example) will show the horizontal overscan lines, unless you crop them from the display.

Not sure of the original source of the .AVI could be PAL or NTSC? they are all .AVI files downloaded from Isohunt.com thru Shareaza P2P program.
The blurry line appears at the bottom of the movie picture not at the bottom of the black post box part (does that make sense??) and yes the line appears when using DVD player to TV as well as thru a PC??

Hate to ask, but just in case, does the original avi which you downloaded have the blurry line(s) at the bottom of the letterbox BEFORE you burn it to DVD? i.e. after you downloaded the avi file to your hard disk what does it play like on your computer using the source AVI file?

No the .AVI file plays fine through media player without any picture defects. its only after the burn that it appears. It happes regardless of whether the file is burnt as is or whether nero converts it to long play to fit a 4.7G disc. would it work better by converting the avi to another file type first then burning??
