Yesterday in Anttila supermarket I noticed very cheap disc with Canon-brand. They were sold in boxes of 10 with paper covers for a very low price (it was 4.95EUR or something - I can't remember). I didn't buy them since I have my stock full of no-jewel-case blanks.

Any ideas about these? Big and well known office brand so it's interesting to see who makes them.

I did a little testing and it seems ok. I have heard that Acer would be a prime quality manufacturer - could someone verify if this is correct?

Yes, Acer makes great quality discs, that are pretty dependable for all functions including archiving. Right up there with the best IMO.
Their RWs are also great, and have never failed me.

1st coaster, reason unknown. Feurio! reported media error, or general write error. I ahve to note that these occur VERY VERY rarely for me.

When I look at the disc under light I can see that the writable layers has clearly visible "smears" on the outer edge of the disc. The write error occured near 70m point, and the written spiral reached the "smeared" area of the disc.

Now these smears appear in some extent in most discs, but as I compare these now to some Moser Bayer India's, the smearing is much stronger with these Canon/Acers.
