I'm looking at Lite-on 5006 since it has a lot of features like recording on CDs (looking to record VCD and audio CDs from TV) etc. It's also pretty much cheap since I'm buying it in tigerdirect.ca

But is this machine good enough.? I'm not expecting a spectacular unit just a basic unit that'll record programs and is this DVD region free?? btw, are the hacks mentioned here and elsewhere on the net for different DVD players permanent? Do we have to hack the machine every time it's started like a ps2 swap trick etc.?

hope ppl can answer these questions

everyone in here told me not to buy cheap recorders, i didn't listen and got an ilo dvdr5 that lasted 4 months, the company went out of business.

walmart.com just lowered the price of the panasonic es15 from 170 to 130 so spend the extra 30 dollars and get something good.

the video quality on those cheap recorders is crappy
