I just recently downloaded Xenogears for the ps1 and was planning on playing it on my modded ps2. It came w/ 3 files when i downloaded it and exracted it ccd., img., and sub. files. I tried burning it to a cd-r w/ alchohol 120% at a low speed prefrebally 2x or 4x and set the datatype to Playstation 2. I used the file ccd. since if you burn that as the image it'll include the img. and the sub. files and it'll be about 600 to 700 mb. But it didn't work and my ps2 came up with the Red Error Screen on my ps2. Is there any tutorial that shows you how to download burnt ps1 games instead of backing them up which is what i only see tutorials on. I also tried CloneCD but that didn't work as well as Roxio. Would DVD Decryptor work? Can anybody help me? By the way im using HP Invent CD-R's.

ccd is a cloneCD file which is a program you said you have.

Open it up again in Clone Cd and see if you can convert it to another type of file.

I recommend ISO but it's up to you. I don't have cloneCD so i don't know
if it will export to ISO, but you could try using ULTRAISO.

If your playing it on a modded PS2 you might have to force it to read in PS1 mode but that also depends on what type of chip you have.

Man that UltraIso program will convert literally anything, I converted the ccd file into an mds file because it worked w/ Marvel vs Capcom 2, hopefully it works?

could be the quality of the CD's you are using also what methods are you using to play the PSX Backup? if its a modchip also try putting the game in hold reset then switch it on by using the open button, wait a second then close it again.
