What burn speed should I be using to burn my image files?

    For DVD's?

    and For CD's?

    Thanks!

I've always burned my PS2 games on 4x. what exactly does burning at 1x accomplish?
Does it lower the chance of getting a write error?
Or is the actual burn better? Meaning that if both burns succeed, would the 1x burn be of better quality then the 4x burn.

I've recently burned some at 8x, and the 8x ritek G04's are all bad, but the verbatim ones are fine.
I tested it with LOTR The 3rd age, because it's easy to check (bad burns have skipping audio or movies).

I don't mind paying more for the higher brand DVD's, but it would be a waste if the copy is worse then a cheaper brand burned at 4x or even 2x.
