What brand of DVDs are you using? Good quality media should play in just about anything now a days also make sure you are burning at a slower speed then the max rating of the DVD media in question. A good rule of thumb here would be to burn at half the speed in other words if your discs are x16 then burn them at x8. If you still have issues after trying better discs like Verbatim or TaiyoYuden then you could learn about booktyping your discs. This would require +R discs and a DVDRW drive that supports bit setting.

Sony can be alright, but I'd suggest Verbatim or Taiyo Yudens as stated by bbmayo. Are you booktyping the +R's? If not, I would recommend giving it a try, it could bring you some joy.

I'd also check the manual of your standalone DVD players. Some of the older model DVD players play only certain types of DVDs...either -Rs or +Rs. Easy to check and just to add to what has already been suggested.

What's the brand name/model#/and current firmware version of your dvd-rw drive?

What is the speed rate of those + Sony?

This free program will tell us all that info.

Booktyping should give you the highest compatability rate,so tell us the answers to those questions and we'll see if your drive has that capability.

If your drive doesn't have booktyping capability, get some quality dash format media and test those dash backups on all your stand alone players/game consoles/and pc drives.

Insert backup disc into dvd-rw drive/open up dvdidentifier/select that dvd-rw drive. You'll see the brand name/model #/and the current firmware version to the right of that.

Then click identify/click clipboard/next post it-rightclick and paste it into your post and give us a gander at it.

It'll even tell us if they are booktyped or not.

BTW, +R, -R or more compatible than RW's, -R's are more compatible than +R's(not booktyped) as far as older dvd players are concerned
