I have a 4x drive and just got a bunch of 8x discs... I see now that the dvd's have a warning on them that say that burning on the 8x with a drive that isn't 8x compliant may destroy the disc. Can I burn?

it 'is' possible w/ some drives & if there's a patched firmware avaiable for said drive ... yes

altho most users have found the results at that speed to be less than consistant , so to summise I wouldn't recommend it but you can have a browse of your specific drive model etc at this firmware forum to see if your covered for starters and maybe think about it from there [after viewing other ppl's tests & then posts to forum]
