Most downloads are in AVI format and need converted to proper dvd format before burning. If you have the full version of Nero then you can use the NERO VISION EXPRESS part to convert the files and burn the final product. Another way to do it is to follow this guide off the forum guide tab.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm

A third way is to use DVD Santa for the conversion.

I have a fourth way to do it, and it is very simple :) check out the guide at my website (link in sig) "Converting AVI to DVD". I made as easy as possible, and best of all all the programs are free!!

Others : all those handled by DirectShow (.mp3, ...).

If your language is not there, please help me to add a translation in your language.
Code : Borland C++ Builder 6. Source code available on demand.
New : Next release (1.2) will use MediaInfo DLL to grab file information. MediaInfo adds Mastroska support and others interesting things !

Once you have the info on the file then you will have a better idea of the file format and then you will be able to proceed from there
