So i just bought prison break season 2 & im burning it before i watch it (i dont take the chance on the original getting scratched) so i ripped it with dvdshrink which went fine then i started to burn it & it failed(log1). (ill post both logs) so i restarted my computer & tried to burn it with nero seperatly & it failed again(log2). then i tried it again & got a write error. then i tried again at 8x & it worked. my problem is i cant figure out how to get it set to dma mode. i went to device manager & it doesnt show what i have seen to look for to change..heres a SS of what mine looks like (under ide ata/atapi controllers it doesnt show anything about primary or secondary) [IMG]

    Hey SC44,

Your DMA is fine. Looks like you have a SATA setup of sorts and your Mad Dog burner is set to Ultra DMA 2 - not the fastest but serviceable.

Couple of things I'd try, first reduce your burning speed to 4x, Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s)

second, I'd reduce my target size to 4460 or less Last address to be written: 2286127 (508:01.52, 4465MB) . To do this in Nero, select Custom Size and type it in.

third, you have Roxio installed, File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=8.0.0.212 , size=9464 bytes, created 3/7/2007 6:51:00 PM. Download RoxioZapper here to remove.

to reset your burner you need to delete your ide secondary controllers then reboot your computer windows will reinstall the controllers and reset them to DMA

Your burner is actually listed in the second pic on the Secondary Channel Tab as Master Drive. It's labeled "MAD DOG TF-DVDRW TSH652D". Underneath the name, it lists transfer mode as "Ultra DMA 2 - Ultra33" (it's greyed out).

That's because I think you have a NVidia SATA setup. It would look different than the standard IDE/ATA items shown.

Well, that a nVidia Serial & IDe controller. You can try going into the device manager (your 1st image), go th IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, uninstall all 3 items and then reboot. Windows will reinstall the controllers upon startup and will reset your DMA. You might or might not see an increase in the DMA setting for your burner.

Have you tried the other suggestions for getting a sucessful burn? Have you tried reducing your burning speed and have you removed Roxio (Roxio and Nero don't play well together)?

I usually have a successful burn , just recently its been failing (so i have to turn down the burn speed). I dont have roxio installed, i was going to awhile ago but i heard it & nero both being installed causes problems, so i didnt. I will try going into device manager & uninstalling all 3 things under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to see if it resets the DMA or not. I Usually used the disc to install everything for my motherboard when i reformatted because of the ethernet drivers being on it. If windows is Not able to install my 3 IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, will it have any negative affects on my comp at that time? I have alot of stuff on this computer & cant lose any of it.

your burners should be on the secondary ide controller deleate it and windows will reinstall after you reboot it will not effect your data or programs on your computer

You were getting successful burns and now you are not, so it could be a burner going bad. You should replace it. I buy good Lite-On and Asus burners on line for a bit over $30.00 so why fight a questionable burner. The media you are using is excellent but you are getting write errors, and you did try this at 8X so it is probably your "Mad Dog" burner.

(I guess you can tell I don't like Mad Dog burners)

There is a possibility that your media is the problem so you could try some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Doubtful.

Your Nero version is not the best. At some point you should download and install both of these packages:
    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

According to your Nero log you do have Roxio drivers installed:
    Use the Zappper tool mentioned.

Roxio usually does not cause problems anymore and if it did, it would not be listed as a write error in your Nero log.

Your selected DVD size is not causing the problem. You are not even close to the edge of the blank when your error is occuring. Good idea I guess if you are using second rate media, which you are not. I never bought into that idea. You actually have 4482 Mb of space so the default 4464 Mb gives enough cushion. This idea was suggested back in the days of crappy Princo media and somehow folks started to apply it to all media.

PIO/DMA does not cause write errors. Your burner will slow down as needed and if the transfer rate was a problem you would get a buffer error.

The problem here is the actual burning of the blank disc so look in that area first.
