have bought a sony dru - 510a dvd burner and have difficulty burning ps2 games to dvd discs. I go through the wizard to copy cd then burn cd on a princo dvd-r disc. Now when i use that disc on my ps2, it says,''please insert a playstation or playstation2 format disc. now have i done something wrong, i have a messiah3 modchip so would love to know whats going wrong..

also make sure you create an image on your harddrive, then burn it to a dvd. As for media, anything is better than princo. People recommend Ritek, I just use name brand stuff like TDK, Memorex, and Verbatim. Also, since your are getting the "please insert a playstation or playstation2 format disc" screen, your modchip might not be working correctly.

Princo works, as ALL my backups are on them and I have a version 1 PS2 with the "supposed" weakest laser of them all. It has to be something with the burn method you are using. Have you made a working DVD MOVIE backup for testing on the PS2 since they don't need a mod of any sort to play in a PS2 to verify the PS2 can't read Princo's?

That depends on your PS2 version, 5 and above can use "+" (some 4's if your lucky). 4 and below only read "-".

Oner how long have you been using backups on your ps2 because I hear backup strain the laser and make alots of noise.

oner,i think it had to do with the mod chip as i went to my mate who installed the chip and first checked the disc on his, and it worked. So he is having a look at mine to see whats wrong with the chip.

I too have a Sony dru-510a and have found that while the game boots up it often hangs in the middle of the game - Final Fantasy X. I thought it was the cheap brand of dvd I used and tried a TDK but same result. Does this point to my modchip or the laser. My PS2 is one of the very earlier version. I am starting to question my dvd burner although dvd movies are fine. Any helpful comments would be much appreciate.

its your ps2 lasers the v1-v4 are installed with the cheaper sanyo lasers and the stain is not from the backups that is the laser is not working any more strain than a regular game the only time there is a strain on the laser is when its a dvd rip game.

    mann75,
Thanks for your reply. I have since found that sometimes the game work and sometime it doesn't and hence tend to agree with your advice.
I have burnt others games and it seems each games's willingness to play is different.
