Can a Starview box pick up other channels other than what NTL transmit ?

I was reading a posting on this forum and it said that a Starview box can pick up free to air channels that NTL don't provide,so could someone tell me whether this is true and if so how can I get my Starview to pick them up ?

 

As far as i know u can only get channels which n*l offer. whether u get them free or specific pay ones . ie adult channel. playboy etc
eg. If your in ireland u wont get some of the n*l channels that can be got in Uk....

 

you get 143 channels on N** and 67 on C***** that is all you will get it is the provider choice what you can and cannot receive

 

Hi Fergus I really appreciate all your assistance. I have sound but no picture on sentanta 2. How do i get a picture? all other channels are perfect. I am located in Dublin on n*l again many thanks

 

ok go to the station get frequency of it and do a manual scan with that freq and go back into channel edit and it should be at the end

no joy Fergus did as you suggested setanta 1 downloaded at the end of channel edit

 

frequency 307.000 symbol rate 6887

 

yes thats the frequency & symbol rate not to worry it only one channel i will try again tomorrow

 

fergus back again I am receiving Setanta Golf on frequency 307000 & symbol rate 6887 Setanta 2 with sound & no picture is coming in on freq. 387500 & sy. rate 6887. It might be a local N*l problem will try again tomorrow again many thanks for your support & time. I have carried out a manual scan as sugessted

Scouser looked and found out it could be under another name like
TV4108 or tv 7676 have a look and see if there are numbers in there that where not there before

 

I have 3 "unused channels" sentanta golf is coming in on one of these "unused channels" with the same fr. & sbl. rt. the other 2 are not on air
