I'm wondering if anyone here knows whether a DVD-R disc (or any other type of disc) that's made in a DVD Recorder can be accessed by a PC DVD-ROM drive. I would like to transfer old home movies to Digital format and then use the PC to edit them. Is this possible? Thanks in advance for your help.

hi well i have a panasonic dmr-e30 it was one of the first ones out but still very good, and i have no problems playing dvds ive recorded on it and using in the pc.. just make sure you have finalized the disc first in the recorder.. (it will ask you when you press stop,,or go to the functions settings)

Thanks very much for the response. I really want one of these things but my interest in them would be greatly diminished if not for this ability to transfer what's recorded to the PC. I love you guys!

    Hey there!

We got a Phillips DVDR70 in our house and we use it
to backup our recordings from our sky+ box-

I find we can record onto a dvdrw and then play it
in a dvdrom/writer drive without being finalised and
    it will play fine!

If you are intending buying a dvd recorder-
the phillips one is ok for £200+ notes but beware

    1- use decent dvdrw
2- if you are just looking to record a program
then put it onto a pc.. DONT EVER FINALIZE THE DISC
-- it corrupts the disc after a while..

hi there yes you could do as angelusxl has done but to play in a normal dvd rom drive you need to finalize the disc only a writer will play an unfinalized dvd.. and if you are getting a dvd recorder i would not recomend the phillips unless its dual format otherwise get a dvd-r recorder as the dvd+ media is a lot more expensive ... and if you want to continue to use the same disc for recordings then yes use dvdrw. hope it helps ..
