can i burn a dvd w/ cd-r burner?

    another stupid question: can i burn it onto a dvd-r using my cd-r burner or do i have to have a dvd burner to do that?

    You need a DVD burner.

    We wouldn't be buying DVD burners if there was.

    Hasn't that Scandinavian chap that has just been in the news cracked the protection code? I thought it meant that your regular cdr/rw could read the data allowing you to burn it as a SVCD.
    I am new to all this so I may not have understood correctly, but would be interested to know.

    Yes, you're correct. But that's to do with decyphering the encryption using a DVD reader. And yes, you can burn the reencoded mpeg data to a blank CD-R(w) to make(S)VCDs using a CD writer.

    But that has nothing to do with writing data to a blank DVD. You still need a DVD burner for that.
