I have a Sony DRU-500a with firmware update. I burn with DVDXCopy 1.31. It seems to average 50 min per disk for ripping (2 disc movie end results). It burns quick enough depending on media 1x-4x no problems. The drive is rated for 8x ROM speed. I know that ripping movies is slower than reading data, but can this process be sped up? Is there a different DVD-Rom drive that would do it faster? Different software? I see people here talking about full disk rips in under 30 min. I've checked my DMA settings, they are enabled. My writer is on Master, sec ide channel. Not sure what else to do. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

You're right. The DVD Rom won't rip at the stated read spped.

My 16x drive rips at about 8x at the most.

It's the same with cd's - you divide the read speed by 4 to get the average speed for audio ripping. I.E. my 48x cd rom rips at about 12x
