I am building a new gaming PC, but I'm more comfortable using my laptop. Can I use my laptop to control the desktop and use the laptop monitor to see what is happening on the desktop? I heard about VNC, but I couldn't find much information on this. Thank you for helping me.

You can use VNC to control a remote PC in the same way you would a normal PC, using a keyboard and mouse and getting the video back. However, the video link is not fast enough to play games or watch video over it. You will be able to input commands, just very slowly.
You can, however, use the PC hooked up to the monitor and use the laptop to control it.
Why you find a laptop more comfortable for gaming is beyond me - laptop touchpads and keyboards are vastly inferior to the desktop variety.
