For starters I have a messiah 2 chip and I also have a slide card with the discs.

I figure if I were to play FFXI online I could just put the chip in sleep mode right?

If not, does the hard drive detect the chip even when your playing offline?

Does the hard drive prevent me from playing any form of backup games?

Thanks for the help, i've had a hard time finding a straight answer

FOr playing online you will have to put chip to sleep, use swap method and ps2utility. this is a simple tool to read the disc id from an ORIGINAL playstation 2 game. there is no id present on a copied disc. and using this utility on them will only give you a random useless id. it also reads the ps2's machine ids.to use it, simply boot the disc on a playstation 2 console.when a screen shows up with text on it, insert your original disc and press X. wait a second or so and then your ids will be displayed onscreen. if the ids were successfully retrieved the text will be blue, if there was an error it will be red.
everthing I have seen says you will not be able to use the hard drive, the chip changes the ps2 bios.
if you dont have a chip soldered to your ps2 you can use the swap method, does not affect the bios.

The subject of "DNAS" has become a very touchy subject nowadays. But one site is ahead of the rest on all information DNA related:

    http://www.ps2nfo.com/

This is the site you need to see if you want any knowledge of DNAS. (You can also find the disc id program on this site.)
