Hi . I desperately need help . My system wont write using a DVD writer Pioneer or Nec in DMA or UDMA mode .

They only write in PIO mode .

My Motherboard is approx 2 years old and has never been updated using downloads etc . Partly because I can`t see what Motherboard it is .

Can I found out my motherboard name using windows XP Pro or the BIOS ?

I need my DVD Writers to write in DMA mode for greater speed .

Any info I can give please email me on philplummer@fairadsl.co.uk or use afterdawn .

    Cheers Phil

I have an old Pioneer 104 & my motherboard is probably way over 2 years old too (altho the box for it is in the loft) :)

XP Pro will set a drive to PIO mode if a certain amount of read errors occur , Ive had it happen a few times on my DVD-Rom drive but I don't use my ol' burner to read with.

The solution is often to uninstall the drive (My Comp> Properties > Device Manager > Pioneer x/ NEC x).
Then restart & let WinXP Pro find it upon coming up... sometimes the process may need to be repeated a couple/few times.

P.S. Did you change anything in hardware profile lately ?

    Hope I've helped some , but I'm not too much of a tech-head - [bold]HERBs[/bold] (U.K)
