can u really flash firmware to make the dvd drive dual layer?

    i recently read on the internet that its possible to flash your drive to make it dual layer. is this true? and if yes where can i get it. i have a sony DVD RW DW-U14A

    Yes it is possible to convert your DVD burner into a dual layer burner. A few manufactures like liteon have just re-flashed old model single layered burners with the new dual layer firmware and repackaged them for sale. But not all brands and models can do this. From memory i think there is a few models from sony that can be done. You might have to do some more research on the net.

    From what I have read, trying to flash single layer burners to dual layer is about a 50/50 deal. 50% chance it will work---50% chance it will damage your drive.
