I think I've cooked my CD/DVD writer on my laptop. The writer is a Toshiba SD-R6112 IDE. There are many models available and wondered if anyone can recommend a decent one as a replacement. The write failures are becoming more frequent and now it's reluctant to read CD's too. My laptop uses an Athlon XP running XP home.

There are many here who like Plextors & Pioneers. Personally I have 2 108s, but I want to buy another & get a plextor ROM for the reading. Plextor does have a good rep on this site, as does the pioneer. I don't think that you would go wrong with either!
