Can you tell what drive you have from the retail box?

I want to buy a backup core in case my console craps out again, but I wanted to know if there's anything on the retail packaging (numbers, etc) that might clue you into what drive it may have, or may not have. My fear is that I'll buy one, open it up and have it be one of the unflashable types.

at this point you probably want one you can not flash. As modded consoles are being banned from Xbox Live. If you do not care about Xbox live then your fine. Only way i know is by looking at the drive tray itself, which you obviously can not do without buying it unless you have a friend who works at a game shop that sells them.

I find it best to sort them by lot number. Compare the lot number on the box compare the the drives with the same lot number on the list. It's not totally accurate, but it's pretty close.
