I've tried to burn on the lowest speed possible and the same thing happens when it gets to 97/97% it did the same thing on a music cd i tried to make. The only stuff that burns successfully is two minute video clips do you think its a faulty drive.

none of which is good media.

just to do an experiment, with dvd shrink, set the target size to somethign like 3500 mb (so that you are far far away from the outer edge of the dis) and see if the burn completes.

That doesn't work for me either. What is strange is that i have burnt small video clips using media centre that have burnt fine clips last about 5 minutes, however anything bigger doesn't work. I tried to burn a cd before and it failed when it got to 96% when i tried to play the cd the first 12 or so songs played fine but the rest didn't appear.

time to start trying different hardware, i imagine. try that burner in another pc to see if the problem lies in the burner or the pc.

ah, didn't realize it was a laptop. this sure is an unusal issue. being a jack of all trades, master of none, i would haul it in for warranty service, then. however, i'm sure before it comes that, a hardware guru will come along.
