cant open java program for windows

it is a .jar file and it used to open and work in xp but now in vista it says an error message

could not find main class program will exit

how do i run it? thanks

 

hmm .jar (java archive) can be opened by winrar you can download it from: http://www.rarlab.com but to be honest i dont know if its vista compitabe so check it before installing

 

i dont want to extract the files inside i want to open it as a program

Hi, exectuting jar files using double click requires java jdk installation, it associates jar files with java so that double clicking the jar file runs it. Although, some softwares like winzip or winrar change the association. Just go to the settings of these softwares and disable the jar association and re-associate jar files to be opened by java.

excuse my english i got confused between open (run) and open (extract).

 

i checked the associations and everything i installed java from the main site but when i run it it says
