After upgrading from win 8.1 the cd/dvd drive does not recognize any disk. It shows in computer as drive F, but does not show in devices. Any clue? Any help will be dearly appreciated.
Thanks ddp. I saw that thread and seems to be a different but related issue. I've been trying to get a hold of any cd/dvd driver but could only find trash. I'll keep on searching for a couple of days and if nothing, I'll go back to 8.1 (at least there I had the cd/dvd working) Keep up the good work. Regards
I am pretty sure that drivers for the optical drive are part of the operating system. Check Device Manager and look for drivers under the DVD/CD option. Delete the driver, adding that you want to remove it from the hard drive (it's an option that will present itself--and you do this, otherwise Windows will simply reinstall what is possibly a corrupt driver.) Then reboot, and Windows will grab a fresh copy of the latest driver and install that.
Thanks Gamer for your response. The problem is that the device manager shows it as "other devices" with no driver. Tried uninstall, edit the registry and nothing. The search only takes me to a great deal of junk. So unless I find a generic cd/dvd driver it won't work.

Thank guys. I had installed the motherboard chipset from amd (win 10). Then ddp made me realize that the cd is a sata drive. Sure enough, in the device manager the ata/atapi controllers were still microsoft, so I went back to the computer manufacturer (asus) and checked for the ata drivers (win 7), that made the trick. I now have the system complete and running. You are right Ireland, I made a back-up image of win 8 before upgrading, it's the right thing to do. Thank you guys.
