Can anyone tell me, why my dvd player for my TV plays divx and xvid
clips heaps times better than on my computer ?

My computer has both codecs installed.

Define better. Could be that your TV simply makes it look "better". Remember VCD's actually looked ok on your average CRT TV, but they look like crap on a decent LCD monitor. Look closely though and there is no extra detail, the picture is no clearer, etc. The TV is simply hiding the artefacts and low resolution.

Having both codecs installed only helps you encode both. Which one are you using for decoding and do you have any kind of post processing enabled?
