I got a new Emachines for Christmas - all worked well until I tried to install Norton Cleansweep from a Norton Systemworks 2003 CD onto the Emachines which has Norton Antivirus 2004 installed. 90% through the installation an error window said Cleansweep installation could not be completed - ooookay - on to other tasks. But now I found I can't use the CD-ROM drive. When a program CD is installed, it doesn't autorun. When I click on the CD in Explorer - it's empty - no files. I've spent a lot of time migrating programs from my old computer, but I can reinstall XP as a last resort. Please - any suggestions ??

If it failed reading cds before, and it doesn't recognize them now, than somethings obviously wrong with the cd drive. Take it back and get a new computer.
