    Sup,

I know this is a common problem - not only on my system - lotta people say it happens to them too but nobody can explain why it happens.................

    Here's the deal:

When I open & close the tray and it is empty, it makes strange sounds, shakes up & down (just a lil' :) ) - seems like it's rubbin against some other piece -??-

    BUT

when I open/close the tray with a disc in it, it works normally...

    --------------------------------------------

Anyone knows how to fix that? It's kinda annoying :p Thx!

the PS2 tray motor is built to open the tray with the weight of a disc in there. as parts rub together they get smaller from wear and will start to "get sloppy" without the weight of a disc. I would try applying a light amount of bearing grease to all moving parts, especially the white guide pin track. not enough to make a mess, but just enough to lubricate. if you do all the locations where moving parts contact the tray, the jumping of the tray should go away.
jumbo - the same way you would horizontally, but with a little more finesse, just gott make sire to get the disc under that lip on the left (bottom) side of the tray._X_X_X_X_X_[small]I wasn't born with enough middle fingers.

try the guide pin track first, that might just do it for you.
