If the Xbox isn't modded, you need to get the hard drive that belongs to the replacement motherboard.

To use your old drive, it not only needs to be formatted, but unlocked too, and to do that you will need the HD Lock keys stored on the old motherboard.

yeah the hard drives are 'married' to the motherboards and signed to the eeproms.

first off you'll need a mod chip..without a chip you wont be able to play any copied/backuped game.
post back if you have gotten a chip so that i can give you a guide on how to do it.

also if your intending to mod your xbos you wont need to buy a new one, just get a new hd to go with your old mainboard.
once you install the modchip u can use a prog such as slayers to format a new 40, 80, 120, 200Gb hard drive.
in fact your xbox maionboard is pretty useless unless you do mod it....its eaaasy andrew31

If I replace my motherboard, will that give me a new serial number? I forgot to turn off the auto-sign in before I started the mod work. I turned it on, walked off, and when I came back it was signed on. Next day, "Modded Xbox Error" can not sign on to xbox live.
