which one do you guys prefer

i've tried both, but i'm going with ffdshow because its one file :)

is there any difference in quality i'm missing out on through using single codecs

Nope, I also never install codecs and use FFDSHOW. Runs the same, and the site even says it performs faster than the actual Divx codec. I don't think thats really true, but it certainly isn't slower.

No I think libavcodec is still the fastest MPEG-4 decoder, even faster when you aren't using it via dshow. This is without post processing, which is personal preference anyway.

    thanks for clearing that up

but i'm getting a problem with one file in WMP11

    it works fine in VLC.

info = on properties it says MPEG-3 and on G-Spot it says DivX3

can FFDshow support that in WMP11 because it lags and skips

    thanks

Eh, WMP has always played videos strangely compared to other player, at least for me. It seems to ignore codecs or filters you are using. Just stick with VLC or try out Zoomplayer.

ffdshow can handle DivX3 and mp3. VLC also uses libavcodec for DivX 3 decoding by the way.
