I have windows media player 10 and yes it's an mp3 file i have tried using quicktime, realtime,and itunes and get the same message.

download Gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html follow the directions and double check the codec of your file.
Dont worry about trying to download the right codac, instead download a VLC media player. This will play just about anything.
VCL stands for VideoLAN client. You should be able to find the player easy enough just use a search engine and type VCL player. Its free. Hope it helps.
