My Plextor 760A has started giving me a "command sequence error" problems. Drive worked great for first two months...now this. Happens on every burn program I have: Image Burn, Nero, etc.

Any suggestions? Plextor already replaced the drive, but I still get the error message which ruins my disks. Tks.

Can you provide one of the burn logs?

From Nero Express---any help would be greatly appreciated. It's driving me crazy and eating my disks--some of which are expensive. Thanks in advance:

you're using good media but still very close to the edge of the disk! may cause a problem.

must be a setting in Nero somewhere that is causing this problem

something is definitely wrong when you have a single sided blank DVD (DVD5) and it is trying to burn to a DL disk (DVD9)! are you trying to make a direct copy of a store bought DVD?

and also you are using a very new version of Nero...... maybe it's buggy and you need a more stable version to use.

another solution might be to use a different program..... try AnyDVD and CloneDVD2! these programs are member favorites around here! you can get a 21 day free trial on these programs..... found here:
    http://www.slysoft.com/en/
see if you're still having problems using these programs! Also here is a great free program, called RipIt4Me:
    http://www.ripit4me.org/guide.html#start

now if you still have problems then there really might be a problem with your drive or your media you're using.... but MKM (Mitsubishie Chemical) are top notch media. I use Taiyo Yuden... strictly MIJ (made in Japan).

Thanks for the response---I'm using TY media and Verbatim (recommended by Plextor). Also, Any DVD. I'm getting the same error message with Image Burn, Clone and Nero...........very puzzling........

Is it possible that Windows Update is putting bugs in our OS to prevent burning DVDs? I hate to sound paranoid, but.........????

well...... you can always go back to when your computer was running correctly ..... it's called Restore Point..... Windows automatically makes a restore point every day..... so you can go back to that point when your computer was working properly. So if you think that a Windows update did a # on your computer..... go back before the update took affect! and then don't update your computer! you can try that.

    Start/Programs/Assessories/System Tools/System Restore
    and follow directions

remember.... if you installed programs or updated data or put in documents you might lose that information because Windows is going back to a date previous on your computer before you did changes! so be aware of that and save your updated or installed data so it won't be lost. I used this method plenty of times as I have an external hard drive that always is updated to what I have on my internal hard drives! I never loose anything any more!

    My 2 cents,

Seems to me that everything was working fine until the jump to the second layer and more data was written...up to address 1915968:
I see you are using a 6X burn speed. Have you tried it with a slower speed?

Why are you using a DL disc when your video will fit on a single layer?

    Fasfrank:

The DL disk was just a mistake---grabbed the wrong one to test.
Everything worked perfectly until just a few days ago...don't recall installing anything or downloading something new. The error message just popped up for no apparent reason.

Unless somebody comes up with something from the burn log, I'll try to do a system restore. Am backing up data now.

Why don't you post a log from one of those single layer burns if the System Restore doesn't fix things?
Good luck with the system restore.
I'm thinking it's a problem with the burner but it's hard to say at this point. Do you have a spare burner?
