Is there a physical difference between the component and composite cables apart from the colours?

My DVD player has a component output and i'm wondering if using composite wires would work, because I haven't got any component wires at the moment.

apart from component using three cables and composite using one, they're the same. you will always get these idiots that are sucked into buy the "monster cable" super thick cables claiming that they actually make a difference in quality, but when you're only going three feet, there is absolutely no difference. I did numerous tests with my students a few years ago as an experiment by running various cables through oscilloscopes to see the difference in conductance, and what do ya know, they're all the same. so three composite cables will work, just make sure to match the colors properly.
