when you usewuality enhancements for compression (clicking on compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation), does using any of these options distort the movie in anyway???Also, what is the best buffer to use when writing to a new DVD??

The quality settings won't distort the movie, it's quite the opposite actually since they will improve it.

I'm not sure what you mean by the best buffer to use.
