I know this sounds simple enough, but I'm at the end of my rope on this. I currently have an xbox 360 slim. It has never been hooked up to another computer before. Currently it is running wireless internet from a Belkin n router. My laptop is running wireless internet from the same router, it is my only computer. I have nothing hardwired.

For the life of me I cannot get my laptop to recognize the extender. I keep getting the error message "cannot locate extender on this computer", or close to that.

    What I've done so far:

Started the extender manually in services.
Allowed the extender to go through windows firewall.
Forwarded ports in the firewall that xbox uses.
Tried to make an ad hoc network.
    Turned off all firewalls.
Enabled upnp in my belkin router.

Most things you see if you google various things with my problem I have tried. Seeing as how I have no computer hard wired into the modem, do I need to setup some type of file sharing network or something like that in my house? My end goal is to be able to have the music and some movies from the laptop able to stream to the xbox so my kids leave the computer alone.

Any ideas? Any insight into my problem would be greatly appreciated.
