computer screen is black with a blinking curser

    hi everybody i have a acer aspire 5100 and it is equipted with vista and when i start up my computer the screen turns black with a flashing white curser in the upper left hand corner. Can anybody give me any insight on how to get rid of that?

    What does the cursor look like? I had an Acer and whenever I had problems I would unplug it and plug it back in after a min and it would work fine. You could try that.

    its a small white curser, it is a laptop and i tried unpluging it i even took the battery out for about 20 minutes

    Try to boot in Safe Mode.

    exactly how would i boot in safe mode, i press f2 and it brings me to the bios setup but theres nothing there about safe mode just the boot priority order

    i forgot to say that tring to press f8 doesnt work onl f2

    sounds like either vista is messed up or your hd has problems. does the bios see the hd?

    im pretty sure under info and boot it list the hard drive
