    Hello!

Yesterday my computer started shutting down for absolutely no reason. With each attempted restart, it shut down even before the Windows symbol comes up during the start-up process! I did a system restore while I still had enough time to do so, but now the system won't even boot up to the desktop, in normal or even safe mode.

I thought it was originally an overheating issue, but after leaving the computer off all night and starting it up cold this morning for the first time, the issue remains.

Is this a virus? I see that a couple of people here are having similar
issues. If so, how do I get rid of it?

    Thanks...

it could still be overheating, open it up and turn it on, then see if the fans are spinning

Yes, the fan is still moving. I can't see anything obviously wrong inside.

Upon further inspection, it was the cpu fan after all. Although it was spinning, the fan wasn't making full contact with the cpu because of a cracked bracket and diluted adhesive. Thanks for the pointer.
