Not sure if this is the right place for it sorry for the newbness in advance.

Is there a way to convert dvd files to avi formate?

I have a few dvds that I own on my computer but I cannot use any of them for my moving editing/music videos since adobe and most other progarms cannot read dvds.

The best guide I know (I shouln't post it because it's not Afterdawn's) is http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=59422 but you need to make a VCD mpeg-1 or, maybe better, a SVCD mpeg-2 (in a similar way: the guide is http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=59484) with TMPgenc then use Virtualdub-mpeg2 [ http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/index.html] to be able to load mpeg-2. (Virtualdub only loads mpeg-1 files) to save the movie as AVI compressing the movie (with DivX or Xvid multipass) the MPG to AVI. Or you can read our guides ( http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ ). Good work!
