I'm sorry if this has already been addressed, but I am new to here and can't find an answer.
What I would like to know is how do you copy just the main movie off a dvd.
Many DVD's now have a lot of extra stuff on them which means you have to compress the whole dvd you are backing up a great deal more because of all the crap on it.
I use DVD Shrink and hopefully someone will be able to tell me how to just copy the main movie itself, without all the other stuff.
    Thanks

Sorry.....just was a bit put back with the blunt comment.
But I am happy to put it behind me.
Yes, your help was kind of helpful, but what I'm having to do is to rip the entire movie to the hardrive first, in its compressed state and then do as what you said and it works ok.
But if I try and do the same directly from the disc without copying it to the hard drive first, when I am ready to burn it it says that files are missing and it is unable to burn (using CopytoDVD). so I have to first rip the entire disc to the hard drive in a compressed state then re-do it from the hard drive just to get the main feature, but it is already in a compressed sate, this is what I am trying to avoid, if you know what I mean.
Any help would be great, and again I'm sorry for sounding ungrateful.
    Pete

Try just using Shrink and DVD Decrypter.

Open Shrink -> click re-author -> and when it comes to burn create and ISO and burn with DVD Decrypter.

    Thanks.....will give that a go.
For interest sake, how do you just copy the main movie? or maybe you don't and just copy the whole disc to the hard drive like I have been doing, and then just select the main title to put on a disc.

when you click re-author, you choose the 1 title under "Main Movie".

The new Star Wars DVD "A New Hope" has 3 main titles.

    Title 1
    Title 1(angle2)
Title 1(angle3) ... all the same size & length, so I just chose Title 1.

When you do reauthor and select just the movie, will the chapters of the movie still be intact or will they be gone? Will you need to find the chapter menus if you want to be able to select the chapters? Also, do you need to find all different audio channels and options and add them in, such as 5.1, 2.0, etc. I can't seem to get 5.1 to copy, getting a copy right error when I try. Any suggestions for that as well?? Thanks

... I suggest experimenting and writing your results to an erasable disc ... that way you don't have to worry about screwing up a good disc until you are satisfied with your results ... Personally, I 'double up' or even 'triple up' movies for my granddaughters to view ... I just got done doing that with Shrek and Shrek 2, leaving out everything except the actual movies ... That way extra stuff like credits and pauses aren't there to cause loss of intrest ... Here's a guide for joining two movies, but using it to separate one movie from the credits and extras is the same ... Or even joining three or four movies ... Play, play, play and burn, burn, burn - just have fun ! ...

When you use reauthor, you menu for chapters is gone.
However, you can use your remote to rewind and fast forward to chapters.
I just use the 5.1 english audio channel.
Also for better video quality choose deep analysis, then choose reauthor.
CLick and drag the title 1 movie into left-hand column, then click on compression settings-> choose automatic.
Then click on backup to designate where the backup folder will be, or create an ISO image and burn with DVD Decrypter.
I use Nero 6.3 for my DVD backups.
Best thing is to spend some time going thru all the excellent DVD shrink and DVD Decrypter guides that available at this awesome site.
That is how I learned to get started with DVD burning.
    cheers, ~pawprint~

Sounds like some people need to learn the difference between 3.2 Shrink and the previous versions. You can record the movie only with a functional menu. You do it from the Full Disc Backup. Under the compression settings select still image (not still picture, it's different) for the sections other than the movie and menu. Select the audio desired and leave the other selections unchecked. Then record as normal. still images replace the unwanted sections. If you select anything other than a movie command you get a still image.

For good user guides, check out http://www.dvdshrink.info , doom9.org also has some good in depth manuals, only they don't have the pictures like dvdshrink.info. Plus, if there are still no guides for the 3.2, you won't get the above info there.
